1/30/2017 1 Comment A Letter from Lynae, Owner of DHThis week, one year ago, Devil’s Haircut opened its doors for the first time. There was just three stylists and one high school receptionist, and sometimes you could find my husband behind the desk when our receptionist had school obligations. It was risky opening a salon in Chelsea, where if you stood anywhere on Main Street, north or south, and rotated in a circle, you would have at least four different places to get your hair cut in your line of vision. What was even more risky, was naming the salon “Devil’s Haircut.” People whispered about us, spoke out about us in church, drove by to see if we were doing rumored seances or testing the Ouija board. Curiosity, however, drew people in. We have met and continue to serve some incredible people with real and amazing stories. To these clients, who have become our friends, we thank you eternally for your commitment to us and your trust in us. Since then, our success has surpassed anything I ever could have imagined. We are different. We don’t crank out haircuts. We consider your lifestyle, your budget, how you feel on the inside. We listen to what you have to say. We embrace your rebellious side. Our approach is sincere. We know that in some cases, who you are and who you see in the mirror can be a delicate relationship. We will not prey on your vulnerabilities, we do our best to embrace what makes you unique. The mission of Devil’s Haircut is to showcase true beauty in a Photoshopped world. People look to hairstylists and others in the beauty industry to define what is beautiful. And I believe it is our responsibility to show what really is beautiful. While I take immense pride in the talent, creativity and artistry exhibited by our stylists, we all share in the mentality that true beauty comes from within. “Beauty” happens when you commit selfless acts of kindness. It’s when you donate your cabinet full of beauty products to women recovering from domestic assault who had left their home without grabbing any essentials. It happens when you show your support to local law enforcement and other first responders, especially when we live in a time when even our police force is scrutinized. It’s when you pay your respects to the men and women who have served our country, and do everything you can to say “thank you.” “Beauty” happens when you pay it forward in a coffee shop in downtown Chelsea to an elderly lady who, unbeknownst to you, had just received some terrible news and you were a little sunshine on an otherwise bad day. February 4th, 2016 we opened our doors, and February 8th Scott and I found out we were pregnant. My son, Oliver, is now 3 1/2 months old and looking back at last year, I couldn’t be more proud of and amazed at what we (Scott, Susan, Kathryn, Callie, Annie, Olivia, Susie, Theresa and I) created with Devil’s Haircut. We get to raise a boy in an environment that proves that beauty isn't determined by your looks, but it’s determined by your actions. Thank you everyone for this amazing opportunity to serve our community, to reinforce what is important in life, and to give you a space where you can always unapologetically be yourself. We are forever grateful for your support and your trust in us to showcase true beauty in a Photoshopped world!
